How easy are they to keep? Tiger Barbs are very hardy fish, but are notoriously known for fin nipping and showing aggression to other tank mates. This however only usually happens when kept in small numbers and in small aquariums. Add plants and pebbles and rocks for a more natural habitat, this will give them areas for grazing on algae.

How big do they grow? Adults can reach 7cm, with males being slightly slimmer and brighter in colour.

What is the best sized tank for these? We recommend a minimum of 50l but a shoal of 6 or more would require a minimum of 100l.

What is best to feed them? Being omnivores, its best to feed a wide range of foods, such as bloodworm, daphnia, good quality flake and algae tablets. We carry a wide range of foods in our ebay shop.

What water conditions do they require? Acidic to neutral is best for these fish, however a stable ph between 6-7 will be suitable. Temperatures of 24-26°C are best for keeping these Barbs.

What can they be kept with? Known for their aggresion and fin nipping habits, they are not suitable to be kept with slow moving, long finned fish. Larger tetra, loaches and rainbow fish are just some of the fish that are suitable. Please see our compatibility chart.

Where are they from? They originate from the river systems of central and southern Sumatra..

Can they be bred in captivity? Yes. In good mature water conditions eggs may become fry with no intervention. Our Tiger barbs are commercially bred for the hobby.
