Aquatic Mosses offered by Aquamania!

All mosses available are easy to care for, can grow in a variety of water conditions and can make a good addition to any tank, helping to spruce up the tank, feed shrimp or fry and even help oxygenate the tank, keeping the water clean and plants healthy. Descriptions for each plant are below:

Portion Sizes

Barbieri & Java Moss

Description - This plant’s stem becomes heavily branched, having many light, fluffy looking leaves that give the plant a soft look and feel. The plant is a wonderful shade of emerald green, giving a deep, rich color to the tank it is placed in. This moss Is very easy to grow and care for and makes a wonderful addition to many tanks.

Care instructions -This moss only requires a bit of lighting, a temperature of 22-28C and can survive in acid based water and slightly alkaline based water. Once acclimatized, it will begin to grow quickly.

What compliments it -This moss looks good towards the back of the tank as foliage for other plants with more varied colors and to give fish a place to hide away from people.


Christmas Moss

Description - This plant is known as Christmas moss due to its appearance being like that of a Christmas tree. Its branches are very similar to that of a pine tree, its deep green color is reminiscent of the evergreen nature of pine trees and the shape of the branches even create a Christmas tree like shape when grown.

Care Instructions - this plant can live in slightly more acidic waters, prefers temperatures of 22-28C and only requires a bit of lighting.

What compliments it - This plant looks best when being grown on either a rock or wood, it does best in the middle area of the tank and can make a good centerpiece if surrounded by smaller plants.

Riccia Moss

Description - This moss has a bush like design, having its leaves grow very close to the root in a cluttered matter that causes them to not grow very tall. Its leaves will grow outwardly until they split at the end, creating a Y shape, making the leaves look like tiny forks. Its bright green coloring will remain towards the center of the plant, but portions closer to the light source will begin altering to a more vibrant yellow color.

Care Instructions - As a moss, this plant is very easy to care for, it can survive in more acidic waters, needs a range of temperature between 20-30c and needs strong amounts of light to grow.

What compliments it - This plant can look good in any area of the tank, either as an upfront plant to exemplify plants behind it or as a backdrop plant so the bases of plants in front of them are less barren.

Spikey Moss

Description - Spikey moss is sometimes considered the big brother of Christmas moss, looking similar but growing to be larger than it. It provides a rougher look compared to Christmas moss and an intense dark green coloration makes it a strong and heavy looking plant.

Care instructions - This plant is rather hardy and easy to care for, it can survive at various PH levels, preferring more acidic PH than alkaline, can survive in a very wide range of temperatures at 12-34C and only requires strong lighting to grow well.

What Compliments it - This plant helps add volume to a tank, being a dense and thick moss it can help more colorful plants stand out as a green backdrop.

Taiwan Moss

Description - Taiwan moss grows in all directions, creating thin and short stems that sprout leaves around half the stems size, its condensed nature helps its pure green coloration stand out even further. Its bushy nature helps it fill empty areas of tanks or even cover up installations to make the tank look more natural.

Care Instructions - This moss is very undemanding, requiring only a high amount of light for growth, otherwise it can live in a diverse amount of both PH and temperatures (12-30C).

What compliments it - This moss can provide a verdant background for more colorful plants to stand out more. It can also help fill the tank up if you are going for a mainly green color scheme.

Pelia Moss

Description - This moss can grow well in nearly any environment, it will typically grow in bush like shapes and produces leaves that look similar to a stags horns. It rich and potent green gives it a very fresh and natural look that can spruce up any tank.

Care Instruction- This plant is tough and only requires high amounts of light. It can live in a variety of temperatures (5-29C) and can live in either acidic or alkaline based water.

What compliments it -  This moss looks best when place in the foreground or middle of the tank and can be used to help plants that have red, yellow or purple colors.

Mini Pelia Moss (Currently Out of Season)

Description - Mini Pelia Moss is much like regular Pelia moss, just smaller, it retains a bushy shape and two-pronged leaves that resemble stag horns and has that same forest green that the regular Pelia moss has.

Care instructions - Despite its size, this moss is just as hardy as the regular Pelia moss, only requiring high lighting but able to survive in various Temperatures (5-29C) and 5-8 PH level.

What compliments it - This moss can look good in any tank that’s main color is green and can spruce up a tank that has many colors to liven it up further.

Ultricularia Moss

Description - The Ultricularia species is comprised of over 260 different types of moss and are most common in tropical areas. Their color is commonly a vivid green or light yellow and their leaves are usually high in volume and provide a fluffy look to the moss.

Care instructions -  This moss is extremely easy to care for, living in a wide range of temperatures (18-30C) and PH levels, they don't even require much lighting, if your tank has water this plant can live in it.

What compliments it - This plants light coloration can help plants with richer, deeper color stand out and shine, it can also help create a high volume background area.

Fire Moss (Currently Out of Season)

Description - Fire moss is a slow growing moss that creates tufts or cushions of moss. Its color is dependent on its age, starting as a rich green and developing into a deep and warm red as it becomes mature. It is quite common to see in urban or industrial areas due to its heightened resistance to pollutants.

Care instructions - This plant can survive in a decent amount of temperatures (20-28C) but requires a consistent PH level at around 7 and a high amount of lighting.

What compliments it - This moss can make a good foreground to help other plants look larger by comparison and can help hide their weights or roots.

Flame Moss

Description - This moss is named Flame moss due to its growth pattern. While submerged its stems and leaves grow upward at various levels, creating an emerald flame. This plant can be placed on a piece of wood or a stone to help it increase its growth area.

Care instructions - This plant needs a nice amount of light to grow well but can survive in temperatures between 12-30C and in various levels of PH.

What compliments it - This plant can make for a good centerpiece in a tank or help exemplify other colorful plans placed in front of it.

Occasionally 1 or more Mosses might be low or go out of stock depending on demand and growing rates,

from this we may use different growers to replenish our stocks and this may delay your order for a few days.
