Greetings!  Offered for auction is this stunning Kutani teaset from Japan.  I purchased this set at an auction several years ago for my own collection.  However, I have moved things around and I no longer have space for displaying it so I have decided to offer it up for sale. I believe that it only had one previous owner but I'm not sure.

The teaset has a raised dragon design on the teapot, sugar and creamer--all three pieces also having lids.  The five teacups have a Lithophane design of an Asian girl in the bottom of the cup when held up to light.  They come with matching saucers.  Also included are five matching serving plates.  All of the pieces are in pristine condition.  I don't believe they were ever used.  I know that all I did was display the teapot, sugar and creamer and store the teacups, saucers and plates.

My research shows that these teasets were made in Japan in the 19th & 20th century for export.  The lithophane process involves several layers of porcelain to get the special design.  This is a very fine example with lots of raised work and moriage style design. Please see pictures for more details.

I collect mainly English teapots, cups and saucers so decisions had to be made about what to keep and what to let go.  This is such an unusual set that I truly struggled with my decision.  However, I would like it to find another home where it could be displayed and loved.  If you have any questions, please email me.  Thanks for looking!

PLEASE NOTE:  The shipping costs are higher than normal for this item because it will have to be packed extremely carefully and insured!
