This is a rare piece of early Clarice Cliff pottery in excellent condition.

Whilst at A.J.Wilkinson’s Ltd., Clarice Cliff created a range of nursery ware based on the illustrations of Joan Shorter, daughter of (Arthur) Colley (Austin) Shorter (Clarice Cliff’s lover and later, husband) drawn when she was 9 years old.

This teapot (9cm high x 18cm wide - spout tip to outer handle) depicts Joan Shorter’s interpretation of Jack & Jill.

On the face of the teapot, as can be seen in the illustrations, Jack & Jill can be seen post fall and tumble, tears flowing from their eyes.

The reverse bears the legend JACK & JILL. The lid bands are orange and green and the base has the following marks WILKINSON ENGLAND, the standard diagonal HONEYGLAZE mark in running script and a facsimile of the original illustrator JOAN SHORTER AGE 9.

This is a very scarce item. Other vessels in this sought after range - such as small 7cm jugs, etc., - regularly make in excess of £130 BUT this teapot is much more desirable because of its rarity.

Offered at no reserve, and starting at just £99.99, we can ship Internationally - not just to the UK.
