It has a stunning interior, which incorporates three beautiful secret drawers. The quality of this box is exceptional.

The exterior is beautifully brass bound and there is a nicely shaped plate to the key hole and the top of the box. The top of the box has been engraved 'Presented to Mr E. E. Mare JULY 14th 1903', this will have been engraved at a later date then when the box was made. The box is complete with it's original lock and key which is a lovely feature.

When the lid is lifted this reveals the black tooled writing slope. The top is then released by two catches to give access to a compartments which has been nicely polished.

The bottom section of the writing slope contains two ink bottle compartment (but there is no ink bottles). Then there is a stamp slide to one side and a lidded compartment to the other and a pen rest to the centre.

To access the bottom compartments which has been nicely polished, the bottom section of the slope is lifted. The secret drawers are located behind a polished panel. To access the secret drawers, the ink bottle compartment to the right (if you are looking at the box with the secret drawer panel in front of you as shown in the photographs) has a thin piece of partitioning wood to it's left which is lifted up. This allows the covering plate to be released. The three secret drawers are lovely quality as can be seen from the photographs and have nice ribbon handles.
