This bronze medal depicts the Cardinal De Mercier, the famous cardinal who distinguished himself as a scholar and a leader of the resistance in the First World War. The medal is crafted with a shepherd and sheep on the obverse by Josue Dupon. Dupon was a Belgian sculptor who became famous in Belgium for some of the large bronzes displayed at the entrance of the zoo of Antwerp and several medals. He won the gold medal for the monumental sculpture of Samson Killing the Lion. The medal is in good clean condition with a great patina. The craftsmanship is very good.
