Fada Model 1000 "Bullet" Coffee and Caramel Catalin Tube Radio
The
Fada model 1000 Catalin "Bullet" tube AM radio ranks among the design
icons of the 20th Century Reproduced several times during the 1970s,
1980s and 2000s.
The coffee and Caramel Catalin cabinet is refer
to by collectors as the "Bullet" or occasionally the
Streamliner. It epitomizes 1940s Streamline design. Its sleek, rounded
lines suggest speed and practicality, hallmarks of streamlined
industrial design from this era. The Bullet's
"airplane" dial is very attractive with moving lines
molded into the gold background and a spare, modern font for the
frequency markings.
The letters F-A-D-A are the initials of
Frank Angelo D'Andrea, who founded the company in the 1920s. FADA
produced many radios and televisions over the years, but its Catalin
radios, particularly the bullet are the best-known models.
This
Radio is currently on display at the California Heritage Museum in
Santa Monica California for the "Collector's Choice - The Passion that
is Collecting" exhibition. Please allow two weeks for delivery.
