Makes the sound less bright and more diffused
Use in place of a bucket mute – softens the sound in a similar way but doesn’t colour the sound as much
Use in Gershwin where “Mute (with felt crown)” or “In hat with felt crown” is indicated
Use where a Goldie, Purdie, softone or cloth mute is called for
Great for intimate gigs
Not strictly practice mute but could help your playing be more neighbourly
Hand-stitched item so will not have perfect symmetry
Available in three ‘strengths’ (please see my other listings)
1. Single Thickness
2. Vented Double Thickness
3. Double Thickness
Available in various colour combinations - see listing titles - my camera sometimes makes red look a bit pink but it is true red
The listing is for the mute only - the trumpet and any other mutes pictured are for illustration purposes and not included

On the video changes in sound and volume are due to the mute as the playing intensity was kept around mf throughout, if anything, ‘blowing’ tends to become more intense with a thicker mute because there is more to push against making entries easier and more secure
Order of clips: open – single – vented – double – open – single – open – vented – open – double – single
