Lopatin served in the Navy since 1942. From the first days of the war he served on the cruiser "Maxim Gorky". During the breakthrough, the siege of Leningrad was in front of the operating generator and provided electricity to the main-caliber towers.
During the transfer of the German cruiser "Nuremberg" from abroad to the Soviet port, he quickly learned technique and taught young Red Fleetmen.
