Name: Rosin Colophony

Synonyms: Rosin

Species: Natural

Rosin is a soft resin of natural origin. The name comes from the Greek word "kolophonia", which refers to the Ionian  colony called Colophon where this resin was first used.

Rosin is the residue after distilling turpentine from the resin of coniferous trees, mainly pine. This process involves the extraction of turpentine, which is used in many fields such as the chemical industry, dyeing, varnish production and many others. After separating the turpentine, pure rosin remains.

This resin has a characteristic sticky consistency and is often available as yellow-brown or orange granules or blocks. Its scent is intense and resinous.

Rosin is a valuable natural raw material that has been widely used in various fields for centuries. Its unique properties and versatile applications make it still an important component of many industrial products and processes.

Application:

Music industry: Rosin is used to lubricate the strings of stringed instruments such as violins, violas, cellos and double basses. Lubricating the strings improves the friction between the strings and the bow, which affects the sound quality and control of the instrument.

·      Wood industry: Rosin is used as an ingredient of varnishes, stains and wood glues. It is also used to impregnate wood, which increases its durability and resistance to weather conditions.

·      Leather industry: Rosin is used in the tanning process of leather. It acts as a stiffening and fixing agent, improving the elasticity of the skin and giving it shine.

·      Cosmetic industry: Rosin is added to some cosmetic products such as ointments, creams and lotions. Its anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties help soothe skin irritations, acne and other skin conditions.

·      Rubber industry: Rosin is used as an additive to rubber to improve its elasticity and durability. It is also used to produce chewing gum.

·      Pharmaceutical industry: Rosin has medicinal properties and is used in some pharmaceutical products such as painkillers and anti-inflammatory ointments.

·      Paper industry: Rosin is added to some types of paper to increase its strength and resistance to moisture.

·      Printing industry: Rosin is used in the preparation of printing inks, especially those used in bookbinding and fabric printing.

·      Sports: in climbing, ballet and gymnastics increases grip
