Pull rope about 105” long
Wood is intact-there is scuffing or aging to the stenciling.
The runners have no rust to my inspection.
Iron runners are painted black and are 7/16” in diameter and
hand pounded flat and rounded on the ends
The seat is attached to the running slats with nails and
interlocking wood prominences.
Antique sled belonged to my grandfather as a young boy, born in Maine 1890 and always lived there and except for bringing it down a few
times to pull around their son born in 1908, it was kept in the
attic until 1968 and then stored in my climate controlled home.
My father born in 1917 told me it was stored in the attic
without use by anyone in his lifetime.
There is an unreadable letter followed by MC suggesting a
manufacturing company, possibly Paris Manufacturing Company of Paris Maine as
their 1890 catalogue has an oak clipper sled resembling this sled except for
the graphics.
The pull rope has the odor of the preservative tar or oil
used in those days to protect the rope from wetness and is about 105” long.
I am not a professional—just trying to find this rare
treasure a new home. Please correct anything I have said if you know more about
these types of sleds.
From my climate controlled home. I don't ship outside the lower 48 contiguous United States.
