Of Human Bondage is a coming-of-age story about a sensitive young man consumed by unrequited and self-destructive love. It is thought to be autobiographical and is considered to be Maugham's masterpiece. It was first published in 1915.

This copy was published by Heron Books in 1968 and contains original illustrations by Charles Keeping, well-known for his children's books and Charles Dickens illustrations. As is the case with all Heron Books productions, they're beautiful copies. (Heron usually published on wood-free paper, but that isn't noted here.)

It is two volumes, in navy leather, or leatherette (I can't tell), with brilliant silver etching on the cover and spine. They both have a silk bookmark. They are both unread, and are so new that I don't want to open them too wide to take photos. The only flaws are on Vol II--there are two tiny marks, one at the top right corner and one at the bottom right corner.

Note: If you're interested in Maugham, I have a first edition of Ashenden posted for sale here on eBay. If you want them both, make me an offer.
