* Lallemand or The German Adèle (1807-after 1870):

Painter and miniature painter. Born in Le Corbeiller, she was a pupil of Jean-Hilaire Belloc and worked in Paris. She must have married around 1839 or 1840 because, from 1835 to 1838, she exhibited at the Salon under her maiden name, and from 1840 to 1870, under her married name. She took to miniature quite late, perhaps not before 1857, and also painted flowers in watercolour. One of her rare known portraits of her, kept at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Rouen, has presence thanks to an energetic gaze and attests to her talent in the rendering of fabrics. It is signed Mrs. V. Lallemand, for "widow Lallemand". (Referenced in "The painters in miniature" by Nathalie Lemoine-Bouchard).
