Meinhold, William. Sidonia the Sorceress, The Supposed Destroyer of the Whole Reigning Ducal House of Pomerania. Simms and M’Intyre, London 1849. First Edition, first impression. Two volumes.

Translated from the German by Jane Frances Agnes Elgee, two years before she married Sir William Wilde.

Volume One in the very rare original publisher’s green illustrated boards. Volume Two rebound in marbled boards with quarter leather and leather corners.

Volume One, spine not present, upper board detached, scuffing and edgewear, corners bumped. Nevertheless quite a bright example of the extremely scarce original Parlour Library binding. Internally pages are clean and bright with no markings. Volume Two, later binding is sound, scuffing and edgewear, internally clean and bright with no markings.

Lady Wilde was a larger than life character, using the pen name Speranza, and claiming descent from Dante. This was her first publication.

A scarce title.
