On 16 April 1935, East Coast Airways (ECAL) started a
regular passenger service between Gisborne and Napier. This was the first
licensed regular passenger service in New Zealand. The planes used were two DH
84 Dragons. Pieces of official airmail like
this were only carried on the first flight from Gisborne to Napier and on the
return trip from Napier to Gisborne. The pilot was Captain T.W White and this
cover was SIGNED by T.W White in a very clear hand. I believe this particular piece
of mail was carried from Napier to Gisborne as it is postmarked Napier at 9.30
am, April 1935. (And it is addressed to Gisborne). The cover is generally in
very good condition. One wing of the back cover of the envelope is missing -
see pictures. This is a Rare and interesting piece of aviation history with the
added bonus of having the pilots signature. Inspection available as is local pick up.
