A description from another eBayer:

"FYI, That's a Douglas TBD Devastator torpedo bomber from early WWII. They were withdrawn after the battle of Midway. The Torpedo 8 squadron of these was wiped out at Midway. Ensign George Gay was the sole survivor of that attack. The carrier could be the Lexington, Saratoga, Yorktown, Enterprise or a few others depending on when the photo was taken. Definitely not a Midway class. The give away is the ribbed top of the wings, much like a Ford Tri-motor. It was a '30s thing when these were first in service."

A truly historical photo.

Photo measures 10 x 8 inches.
