This is a Free Frank front, used on a letter sent from London to Kirkcudbright dated 12th March 1836.

Item measures approx 130mm x 68mm

The Free is struck in red and has a double rim for Evening Duty with the crown breaking the top of the circle.

The front is signed by JOHN A. MURRAY - I believe this may be John Archibald Murray who was a Scottish politician & judge; appointed Lord Advocate in 1834 and 1835-1839; knighted and made a judge in 1839.
