In 1892, Richard Sears and Alvah Roebuck founded the A. C. Roebuck watch company. In 1893, they renamed the company to Sears, Roebuck & Company and began to diversify. By 1895, the company was producing a 532-page catalog  that included not only watches, but nearly everything! Dolls, stoves, sewing machines, bicycles, sporting goods were added - with more items and catagories added every year. It was the Amazon of the 1890's. The "Everything Store" that wasn't a store at all. For children and their parents throughout the 1900's, the Sears catalog was a "wish book" that was eagerly flipped through with joy and imagination.
