A large group of ephemera relating to an around-the-world cruises on the Canadian Pacific Steamship line in 1929/1930 and 1930/1931, aboard the RMS Empress of Australia, Including: Art deco brochure for voyage Departing Southampton advertisting the 1930/31 Cruise, all other items clearly from the collection of a passenger on the 1929/1930 Cruise, which took place between early November 1929 and late March 1930, including: concert program from evening of 20 November 1929, Cap Race meeting brochure, and 6 illustrated Cruise News new sheets  Cruise. And the original landing portfolio issued to passengers in Japan, containing (7) single-sided mimeographed sheets discussing protocol and cities including Kyoto, Nara, Kobe, and Beppu. Fitted into the original paper envelope.  The RMS SS Empress of Australia led an interesting life, having been completed in Germany slowly over many years as the First World War raged on, she was intended sail for Hamburg America Lines as the SS Admiral von Tirpitz. However, in 1916, Kaiser Wilhelm II requisitioned the as yet uncompleted ship and ordered that she be completed as his Royal Yacht, to used to accept the projected surrender of the Allied Powers. She was seized in 1919 and operated as a troop ship under P & O Lines, then sold to Candian Pacific.
