First Day cover on the occasion of the issue of the Dwight D. Eisenhower 6 cent postage stamp (Scott #1383).
The First Day Cover was postmarked First Day of Issue on October 14, 1969, in Abilene, Kansas. Eisenhower was born on October 14 in 1890.
The Fleetwood cachet on the cover shows Eisenhower's home in Abilene, Kansas and a portrait of Eisenhower. Above the picture of the house are the words "Eisenhower home; Abilene, Kansas" with the general's five stars to the left and to the right of "Abilene, Kansas". The cachet also has the words, "Honoring Dwight David Eisenhower, 34th President of the United States; General of the Armies".
The cover is also stamped with the 8 cent Eisenhower regular issue stamp (Scott #1394), which was canceled in Denver, Colorado, at the Main Office Station two years later on Eisenhower's birthday, October 14, 1971.
The positions of the stamps and cancels will vary slightly from the picture on these handcrafted items.
