This is a charming amethyst (iridized) carnival  glass bon bon featuring the Victorian pattern "BUTTERFLY" on "STIPPLED RAYS" made by the Harry C. Northwood Glass Company of Wheeling, West Virginia, circa 1910. It is signed on the center exterior of the base with the trademark "Underlined N In A Circle" logo.

Excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or restorations.  The iridescence, which has significant blue tones, is strong and unblemished with more of the soft matte-like finish than the radium-like finish.  The  pattern is well-articulated, nicely detailed and unmarred.  Butterfly bon bons commonly have straw-like marks or stretch marks on their exterior from hand manufacturing, as does this one.  A very pretty piece of antique carnival glass from Northwood.  An ever-popular item, and a great gift.

There are the usual internal air bubbles and straw marks (shearing and crimping tool marks) commonly associated with the hand manufacturing and tweaking of old carnival, opalescent, stretch, and EAPG.   Each piece of this old fabulous glass is unique, no two pieces are truly identical.
