Photo 5: Trinity Base Camp was built by the Army in the winter of 1944 and was occupied by a detachment of military police from December on. By summer it was a bustling hive of activity with more than 200 scientists, soldiers and technicians. 

Photo 6: Aerial view of the aftermath of the Trinity test, 28 hours after the explosion. The smaller crater to the southeast is from the earlier detonation of 100 tons of TNT on May 7, 1945. To the left of the crater can be seen the "Jumbo" container, unharmed, and its collapsed tower.

Photo 7:  "JUMBO," a 120-ton steel vessel, was designed to contain the explosion of the bomb's high explosive and permit recovery of the active material in case on nuclear failure." (was not used for this purpose during test).
