Mikhail Solomonovich Mayofis was born in 1939 in Leningrad. In 1963 he graduated from the graphic faculty of the Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. I. E. Repin. Member of the Union of Artists of Russia. He currently lives and works in Los Angeles. Mikhail Mayofis is engaged in easel and book graphics, painting, etching. The first book in his design was published in 1962. Designed and illustrated over a hundred books, including works by A.S. Pushkin, M. Yu. Lermontov, N.V. Gogol, I.A.Krylov, O. Balzac, G. Flaubert, O. Villiers de Lisle-Adam , J. and W. Grimm, C. Perrot, E. L. Schwartz, R. E. Raspe, G. Brueger, B. V. Zakhoder. Since the mid-1960s, he has participated in all-Union, All-Russian, regional and foreign (Bratislava, Bologna, Leipzig, etc.) art exhibitions. Awarded with a silver medal IBA-77 (Leipzig), a diploma from the USSR Academy of Arts and other awards.
The artist's works are in the Russian Museum, the Tretyakov Gallery, in museums and private collections in Russia and other countries.
