ABOUT LÉA STEIN JEWELRY
Since the late 1960s, Parisian designer Léa Stein (1936 – ) has been creating distinctive plastic jewelry—primarily pins—by fusing together many thin layers of laminated cellulose acetate and interspersing them with sheets of silk, lace, and metal, in a process invented by her husband, chemist Fernand Steinberger. In this way, her handmade pieces, which also show her love of Art Deco, geometric shapes, and bold colors, mimic textures such as snakeskin, glitter, and mother of pearl. No two pieces are exactly the same. It’s no wonder that women like Elizabeth Taylor, Jackie Collins, and Madeleine Albright have owned her jewelry and contributed to making it highly collectible.
