Victorian Opaque Glass Rolling Pin c1860 - Excellent Condition.
This is a beautiful hand blown and hand painted rolling pin with painted foliate and berries decoration. It has the typical cylindrical form with knobbed ends with small hole to one end.

Decorated glass rolling pins were generally given as gifts by sailors to their wives and girlfriends. They were usually colourfully decorated with words of endearment. The words on this rolling pin are "Love & be true". One end of the pin always has a small hole in it, the reason for this was to fill the pin with warm water to assist in the rolling of pastry.
