Gorgeous real metallic blue green day flying moth wings, Urania leilas The most spectacular varieties of my line of real butterfly and moth wing jewelry are the day moths. Buttefly and moth wings get their magnificent colors from the fine scales that cover the wings, the day moths have a dichroic effect, menaing that the color changes as they are moved. The urania leilas has a black velvet background and scales that shimmer a vibrant metallic sea blue and bright green. The dichroic effect makes them somewhat difficult to photograph, so notice that in the different photos the colors appear different depending on the reflection from the metallic scales. This pair is made with the forwings (top wings).
The preserved and hardened wings dangle from sterling silver ear wires.
These average 2 1/4" long from the top of the ear wire to the bottom of the wings. Average width is 1".
The earrings that you will receive are in photos 1-4 made with sterling silver ear wires. Photos 5 -6 show an example of the whole moth. Photos 7 - 8 show these made with pure grade 1 titanium ear wires and If you have sensitive ears I will be happy to make your pair with titanium ear wires for no additional charge.
If you prefer sterling lever backs I can upgrade the listing for you. There is an add on fee to upgrade to sterling lever backs to cover the additional supply cost. After they have laid their eggs they have fulfilled their purpose and pass peacefully. They are then collected and sold to scientists, collectors and artisans like me. Butterfly farming has the positive effects of putting black market, illegal butterfly hunters out of business and giving the residents in tropical areas an alternative income source so they don't have to sell land and trees for clear cutting.
