YAMAHA "GT-5000" - Aiming for a higher level of musical expression
The "GT Concept" that forms the basis of the GT-5000 is Yamaha's traditional design concept of pursuing the essence of sound in an orthodox, simple, and faithful-to-the-basics manner.
As the words "Gigantic & Tremendous" suggest, the GT-5000 is based on a design concept that emphasizes the massive weight of parts that are necessary for sound quality and the bold omission of unnecessary parts.

Highly rigid and heavy wooden cabinet that embodies the GT concept
The GT-5000's cabinet, which embodies the GT philosophy, is made of a traditional wood-based material consisting of four layers of high-density particleboard crimped together.
The reason why the dimensions, weight, and materials are virtually the same as those of the GT-2000, the first model in the GT series, is that the dimensions, weight distribution, and material characteristics are balanced at a point where sound quality is unmovable, and there was no need to change them in the slightest.
Particleboard is not a special material, but its fast sound decay and homogeneity were still ideal for the sound we wanted.
The leg that supports the cabinet, on the other hand, has evolved dramatically. This leg was developed in collaboration with the anti-vibration expert Patent Equipment Co., Ltd. and features a specially tuned coil spring that controls unwanted resonance. Rhythmic low frequencies and supple high frequencies. This small part contributes greatly to the simplicity and comfort of the sound.

Belt drive system with AC synchronous motor
One obstacle that cannot be overlooked in achieving an honest sound is the feedback control that comes with ordinary servo motors. Even if the rotation of a servomotor is accurate as an average value, it repeats unnatural movements microscopically and instantaneously, which we believe clouds the sound and takes away the sense of air.
That's why the GT-5000 uses a belt drive system with a 24-pole, 2-phase AC synchronous motor that has no servos. The synchronous motor is a classic technology, but by using precise sine waves generated by quartz as the AC power source that serves as the reference for rotation, we were able to ensure a level of precision suitable for modern high-end equipment.
The rotation is stabilized not by the torque of the motor but by the mass of the platter itself, and electrical feedback is eliminated from the drive system, aiming for a clear and open sound.

Double-structured platter generating huge inertia of 0.92t・cm².
The platter, another symbol of the GT concept, is a double-layered structure consisting of a machined brass inner turntable with a diameter of 143 mm and a mass of 2.0 kg, and a machined aluminum main turntable with a diameter of 350 mm and a mass of 5.2 kg.
By overlapping different metals with different natural resonance points, the turntable's "squeal" is suppressed without sacrificing the beauty of the sound. The inertia (moment of inertia) generated by a platter with a thicker outer rim is as high as 0.92t-cm².

Pure Straight Tone Arm with Ultimately Simple Structure
Yamaha's original pure straight tone arm has an ultimately simple structure that eliminates ancillary mechanisms such as an inside force canceller and arm stopper (rotation stopper), and further refines the inherent qualities of a straight arm with superior weight and mechanical balance.
The arm pipe is a short, double-layered structure combining a tapered carbon pipe (outside) and a copper-plated aluminum pipe (inside) to achieve high rigidity, low resonance characteristics and excellent noise shielding effects by making the most of the characteristics of each material.
In addition, all audio wiring is unified with PC-Triple C, a new generation copper conductor that has been successfully used in the 5000 series power amplifiers and speakers, in pursuit of a rich amount of information across the entire bandwidth and a sense of power in the low frequency range.

Output terminals for balanced audio from phono cartridges
The audio output terminals on the rear panel are equipped with XLR balanced output terminals for balanced phono cartridge output in addition to the standard RCA terminals.
In combination with the C-5000 preamplifier and M-5000 power amplifier, both of which feature fully balanced stages including MC head amp and phono equalizer, this enables fully balanced transmission between phono cartridge and speaker outputs.

Traditional exterior design dedicated to faithful reproduction of analog discs
The simple exterior design of the GT series, with no strobe scope and three circular buttons on the top surface for power on/off, rotation/stop, and 33/45 rpm, is the result of a timeless commitment to faithful reproduction of analog discs.
The cylindrical protrusion placed to bite into the large 350mm platter is a finger rest to prevent your palm from touching the outer circumference of the platter when lowering the needle onto the disc, and there is a built-in pitch control knob to fine-tune the rotation speed within a range of ±1.5%.
The cabinet is made of traditional birch natural wood with a black finish.
