This is an oil on board portrait of a girl from the first quarter of the 20th century. The brightly colored scarf adds impact to the painting. In earlier times artists would dress their subjects in helmets and turbans to add some drama or whimsy to their portrait. This may or may not have been the case here. None the less, it makes for a striking composition.

The work measures 10” by 13” to sight and 14 ½” by 18” in the period, quarter-sawn tiger oak frame. The canvas and paint surface are in a stable and fine condition. The frame offers a lovely, aged patina. The artist’s signature can be found on the lower right corner.
