FINE ART PHOTOGRAPH

ABOUT THIS ARTIST:

Linda grew up in Rochester, NY under the big yellow "K" of Kodak, but it was while living in moody New Orleans as an adult that she developed her emotive photographic eye and began studying photography seriously. She first delved deeply into the fine art of archival black and white printing by working the Ansel Adams zone system. As her studies expanded, she developed an affinity for the "alternative processes" —uncommon or antiquated photographic techniques— which allow her to bring as much creativity to the printing process as she brings to the camera. She now lives in rural Vermont, but considers herself a New Orleans-rooted photographer.

The artist shoots and develops all her own film, and prints and tones her images in her own darkroom. The Alternative Processes require special handiwork. The cyanotype chemicals must be mixed fresh before being hand-coated onto the receiving paper. Bromoils require laborious but delicate hand-inking with brushes, and Linda hand-colors her home-made image transfers. Due to interest in seeing the image transfers in a cost-effective larger format, a handful of transfer images are now offered enlarged to 12x14 as limited-edition archival Giclees printed on fine art watercolor paper.

Linda's awards include a Faculty Award at the New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts, second place in photography at the Cornhill Arts Festival, Rochester, NY, the Award of Distinction at the Bartow Bloomin' Arts Festival, Bartow, FL, Honorable Mention at the manayunk Arts Festival in Philadelphia, First Place at the Vermont Arts and Craft Festival, Stratton, VT and Second Place at Art for Arts Sake, Stowe, VT. Her photography has been published in the New Orleans Times-Picayune, Ellipses, and Gambit Weekly.
