Lopez de Santa Anna, Antonio (1794-1876) - Letter signed
Mexican general and politician, best known in the US for his role in the Mexican-American War and the slaughter of scores of Americans at the Alamo.
Letter signed “A. L. de Sta Anna”. 1p., 8.0 x 8.0 inch, n.p., n.d., probably
slightly trimmed at the top. Letter in Spanish: “Mi estimado amigo sirbase
usted entregar a nuestro amigo D. Jose Julian Gutierrez el juego de Café que
existe en su poder de mi pertinencia, pues con esta misma carta le escribe para
que lo recoja. He tenido el mayor gusto al saber que ha sido usted nombrado
primer Alcalde de la Aduana de Tamauilipas, y port al suceso le doy a usted la
enhorabuena. Sabed usted que lo aprecia su afectisimo amigo y muy seguro
servidor.” Translated: “My dear friend, would you give our friend D. Jose
Julian Gutierrez the coffee game that exists in your possession of my
relevance, because with this same letter he writes to pick it up. I have had
the greatest pleasure knowing that you have been appointed the first Mayor of
the Customs of Tamauilipas, and port to the event I congratulate you. Do you
know that your affectionate friend and very safe server appreciates it.” Fold
breaks expertly repaired on verso, slightly discolored, handling wear, else
good condition.
