This original, vintage poster produced in the mid-1970s for the German release of Andy Warhol's Lonesome Cowboys comes directly from the estate of the artist. Filmed in Arizona in 1968, Lonesome Cowboys was a tongue-in-cheek version of the traditional Hollywood western and the last film that Warhol directed himself. The film infamously triggered an FBI investigation into possible interstate transportation of obscene material. Starting in 1963, film became a fixture of Warhol's prolific practice resulting in his production of hundreds of movies, and establishing him as one of the most influential, avant-garde filmmakers of his generation. This is a unique opportunity to purchase a rare and out-of-print poster directly from Warhol’s own personal collection.
Proceeds directly benefit the non-profit charitable organization he founded with the mission to advance the visual arts. Since its inception in 1987, The Andy Warhol Foundation has been a stalwart advocate for freedom of expression, supporting work that is experimental and challenging in nature and from communities that have been historically marginalized.
