This 13.2in x 9in papyrus is a handmade ancient Egyptian drawing by the famous artist Adel Ghabour. Papyrus was used in the ancient times as a writing surface. The botanical name for the papyrus plant is Cyperus papyrus, denoting that it belongs in the large Cyperaceae family of sedge plants. It is the oldest type in the world of what was used then as paper. The Aten was the disc of the sun and originally an aspect of Ra, the sun god in traditional ancient Egyptian religion. Akhenaten, however, made it the sole focus of official worship during his reign as he identified himself with the sun god Aton and elevated the cult of Aton above the worship of most other gods, including Amon, the king of the gods.
