Hungarian, TRADITIONAL, FOLK, COSTUME, WAIST-COAT Antique.

This is an estate find. The woman who owned it was 86 years old. I was told she was Hungarian, but the vest doesn’t look like most Hungarian costume wear that I’ve seen. So I’m not sure of the country of origin. It looks old and handmade. The rope accents have areas that are frayed or have the thread beneath showing through. The rope has left impressions in the velvet. There are also areas of loose sequins. The arrows are pointing to small holes in the fabric. The arrows are 1” wide for size reference. It’s a very small child’s size and most likely the 86 year old woman’s childhood vest. Please review the pictures carefully for details on the condition and measurements.

Someone was nice enough to reach out to me via messenger: “It is a Hungarian outfit. I am uncertain where this would have been worn in Hungary. I have pictures from the Hungarian Reformed Church’s grape harvest festivals in Ohio… these are the outfits we wore (perhaps in PA as well). Maybe it’s a Hungarian American thing. This style has been around since the 1900s (at least at our church).”
