In Greek mythology, Selene, the moon goddess, fell in love with the mortal Endymion, a beautiful young man. Selene wills Endymion to perpetually sleep. Selene visited her sleeping love every night as she rode her moon chariot across the night sky. She would come down to earth just to be with the beautiful Endymion. They had thirty daughters. John Keats, famous poem, Endymion, is based on this story. This is the poem in which Keats writes the famous line, "A thing of beauty is a joy forever," echoing Selene's attachment. Wonderful story; wonderful cup & saucer. Enjoy
