The AUV Stick light is installed near your air conditioner's evaporator coil. The coil is located near your furnace or air handler. The coil can grow mold and mildew because it has all of the necessary "ingredients" to do this. Think about it: As your a/c system cools down your house, it extracts humidity from the air. This makes your coil wet. It is dark in the coil because the coil is covered with sheet metal. And finally, after your a/c system turns off, it gets warm by the coil. As I mentioned, you need moisture, darkness and warmth to grow mold and mildew.  The purpose of the AUV light is to kill the mold and mildew as it grows. It accomplishes this with Ultra Violet light. This promotes better indoor air quality as well as better air flow across your coil.  Incidentally, the life of the bulb is two years before it begins to lose it's effectiveness and should be replaced. IMO, this is a good reason to never buy a used UV light - you have no way of knowing how much time is left on the bulb.
