JORG HYSEK KILADA
With the death of the beloved Gerald Genta and the retirement of Eddy Schöpfer, Jorg Hysek — Jorg Hysek Sr became the only great veteran of watch designers still in business.
Born in 1953 in Berlin, living in Switzerland since 1960 and having studied at the London Academy of Art, Jorg Hysek began by focusing on sculpture and painting but quickly turned to watches. He created some icons from the 70s, like the Vacheron Constantin 222 (the limited edition model that would later inspire the Overseas and for many the best integrated design of the time). He designed the Marine to endow the Breguet with a stronger, sportier and more contemporary model; he signed parts for Tiffany & Co and Ebel. He was also famous for Kirium, which reinforced TAG Heuer's cutting-edge aesthetic image in 1997, and for the revolutionary Seiko Arctura. Two watches endowed with the so-called integrated design that made school in the 70s and that includes so many watchmaking icons.
