Super Heavy Magnetic Black Sands mined from a Gold recovery operation south of Silver City Montana. Located downhill from the famous Empire Gold Mine, Marysville, Montana.
1 cup of magnetite powder weighs about 1.5 lb. The material feels and handles like (very heavy) bread flour. It is dried and sifted to 1/30" or 30 mesh fine. It is dark black and VERY high quality. This is NOT crushed rock, it is disseminated grains of Magnetite some in crystalline form, which eroded from its host rock and concentrated in streams.
This material has been sluiced and panned down to the heaviest minerals and then extracted from the pan with a Spin-it-Off magnetic separator. The occasional piece of gold could make it in to the black sands with this magnetic pull. Others have claimed gold extraction from the black sands after crushing them further than the 30 minus size they are now.
This highly magnetic black sands are very fun to play with for kids but this Magnetite Sand-FE304 can be used for many other useful projects.
