Red Teddy Bear Cholla Cactus Plant Cuttings Segments Stalk Cylindropuntia Campii
This listing is for your choice of one, two or three live cuttings / segments of Cylindropuntia x Campii, commonly known as Red Teddy Bear Cholla or Red Cholla cactus. These cuttings are live, non-rooted, softwood segments ranging from 3” to 5” in length.
Red Teddy Bear Cholla is a beautiful, but rare type of Cholla cactus. Like it’s relative, Teddy Bear Cholla, it has an intricate pattern of spines which glow rusty red as the sun illuminates them. These spines are very sharp and can be up to 1.5” in length! The spines protrude from reddish colored areoles and add to its beautiful red hue! Be very careful around it because just a light brush up against it can result in numerous segments painfully attached to you! The flesh of the segments is a dark green color.
Beautiful flowers are yellow to chartreuse in color and they are highlighted with light red markings on the petal tips. They cover the tip branches in mid- to late- spring.
Fruit ripens greenish / yellow in color during summer and is NOT desirable for eating.
Red Teddy Bear Cholla's mature size can be up to 8' tall and 6' wide. As this plant matures the main support trunk will turn to a woody brown color and be void of red segments.
Red Teddy Bear Cholla is very easy to grow, requiring little to no care and very minimal water. It can sustain cold temperatures down to approximately 15 degrees Fahrenheit.
Native to the Sonoran Desert, and specifically to the central Arizona area.
