The Una and the Lion series was launched by the East India Company in 2020. This second release of the series features a newly designed image, continuing to graphically narrate "The Faerie Queene," English poet Edmund Spenser's classic tale of beauty, strength and honor.
Obverse: The obverse is graced with the image of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, posed facing right. The portrait is encircled by the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II," "D.G. REGINA F.D.," "ST. HELENA" and "2 POUNDS," along with a delicately patterned border. The Queen's image was crafted by award-winning sculptor Jody Clark of The Royal Mint in 2015.
Reverse: The reverse features the princess Una standing amid stylized gusts of wind with a jeweled scepter in her grasp, while looking fondly down toward her fierce lion companion. The image is framed by a similarly patterned border containing the inscriptions "UNA AND THE LION," "2021" and the "EIC" Mint mark of the East India Company. The image was created by sculptor Glyn Davies, a designer known for previous work on the 2019 Tower of London series for The Royal Mint.
