I don't believe there is any wire or metal to hold shape. Appears to be the the way the edge seam stiching is around. On the 2" tri-corner seams, the material is partially stitched along with the regular flap edge stitching (to keep the corners).
What is beneficial are the three "X" faux leather cords. Four punch holes and the cords go through to the inside (near the head) which will help hold the flaps in place and help keep the shape when folded up. I took extra pictures and will show the punch holes/cords etc. and several pictures show the inside of the hat and how the cords are tied in to secure. Other photos. Please see other pictures of approximate tape measurement dimensions. Comes in poly bag.
Due to manufacture storage/packaging will have creases etc. in material (mostly near or on tip corners) and material should 'relax' over time. If yer' handy with an iron on low setting, soft steam or a fabric relaxer might do the trick?
