Our client's British bijouterie table dates from the nineteenth century and features bronze and brass mounts including frieze with bronze drapery and tassel motif, finely tapered legs with brass mounts and feet, and worn satin lining.  Measures 30 by 19.5 by 19.5 inches and is in good condition.  It has its original key and there are some cracks and losses to the brass mounts.

Underside carries the paper label of T. Clarkson, Antique Dealer, of Wolverhampton, the small town northwest of Birmingham.

The Clarkson family were said to have been clockmakers in London as far back as 1640.  In 1755, Hewitt Clarkson moved the business to Cock Street, Wolverhampton, Staffordshire.  In about 1780, the business moved to Dudley Street, later known as Snow Hill in Wolverhampton.  In 1840, in response to the declining popularity of long-case clocks, the family founded a furniture business at Snow Hill.  Thomas Clarkson & Sons Ltd. was registered in June 1932 with its registered office at 48 Snow Hill, the address on the label on the table where it continued to operate into the 1970s.
