This is the complete interesting story of the Reading Company RS-4 and RS-4b class diesel-electric locomotives. Never before has the entire story of why, when and how these marvels of engineering, for their time, joined the railroad's roster.

Book begins with the "why" and the test runs of FM Train Master TM-1 and TM-2 demonstrators working on the Reading system. Book then dwells into how and where the Train Masters were used in both freight and passenger service. 

The unfortunately events that took these mighty beasts of service at such a young age is also well documented. One of the most unique items found within the book are the reproductions of the cab Shop Maintenance Cards for each and every Train Master the Reading owned. 

These cards provide a portal into the realm of FM Train Master operations never even discussed before. Every time one of these giants was serviced a notation was made on the cab card. The notation will tell you when, what and how long the service took. 

Book concludes with the personal memories of the Train Masters being serviced at the Reading Locomotive Shops by Reading Company electrician William Cauff, Jr. This section features color illustrations taken by Mr. Cauff, Jr. and others.
