A nice, original example of a .45-70 rifle cartridge box style pouch in black leather, with a brass plate depicting the insignia of the New York National Guard (NG). Made by McKenney & Company of New York (1872/1873 patent date). The pouch is constructed of thick leather with a black finish, and has all brass hardware (including front plate, hinges and retaining clip). The cartridge box itself is machine-tooled wood and fits neatly inside the pouch. Overall condition is good for its age. The leather shows wear and some mild cracking in areas, Both of the belt loops remain securely sewn. Quite a nice historical piece, particularly for collectors of old New York militia and National Guard items.
