These books were published in the late 19th / early 20th centuries - a period of unrivalled excellence and advancement in the field of graphic arts and illustration. This extended, naturally to the design of posters which, in this period became an increasingly popular medium for artistic expression as leading artists of the period lent their skills to posters for advertising, performing arts, social and political messaging and even, propaganda. The turn of the 19th into the 20th century was also the period of immense popularity of the new art nouveau style with its beautiful natural and curvilinear forms and you will find many examples of posters in this style presented in these profusely illustrated volumes. Includes all issues of "The Poster"; a monthly magazine published in London from June 1898 to December 1900, dedicated to the new art of the pictorial poster. It was the first periodical devoted to the poster to be published in Britain
