DIOGENITIC ORTHOPYROXENE FACETED GEM

Currently believed to originate from deep within the crust of the asteroid Vesta (4 Vesta ⚶)

Comes from a type of meteorite known as diogenite. These meteorites are composed of yellow-green crystalline material.

The nature of this delicate completely unique material appears very dark - also because windowing (leakage of light through the pavilion) and the inclusion scenario. Still, the gem is transparent and the size is impressive. Exhibits nice olive green color in normal strong laboratory classification conditions against a distant white background.

Please see the last photo, the sawn slice of rough from where this stone was cut.
The very best part at "3o'clock" in the picture - the fantastic single crystal, with the horizontal metallic feather plane visible.

Identification: Diogenitic Orthopyroxene
Official Meteorite Name: Northwest Africa 7831
Weight in Carats: 0.93 (highly exceptional approximately one full ct)
Transparency: Transparent !
Color: Yellowish Green ("inky" face up appearance)
Clarity: Jardin
Clarity specifications: The main crossing inclusion is a "feather plane of isolated metal droplets" not a crack (the stone is attracted to a strong magnet)
Luster: Vitreous
Cutting: Faceted; Crown Brilliant, Pavilion Step Cut
Shape: Oval
Measurements, mm: Length 6.90, Width 5.10, Depth 3.19
Cutting notes: A huge distinct single crystal was designed by me and my good friend specialized in an array of rare gemstones - especially carefully, the slice was then preworked on by a close very highly reputed and skilled cutter, and finished by a certain true master faceter; producing massive yield without braking the important rough
Treatments: Unknown
Find Locality: Western Sahara Desert
Origin: Extraterrestrial

Could be set very carefully as a pendant by a real expert goldsmith, but not advisable for a ring - as the gem is brittle and way too valuable (quite irreplaceable). The setting should be large and protective from knocks, but all delicate, and "airy" to let maximum light to enter also from the back of the stone - and in this manner housed away from grease, keeping it easily cleanable with plain water and a soft toothbrush. It should not be used in the shower etc. to keep safe from constant contact with chemicals.

One and only epic unseen museum quality. Complimentary C.v.S. FGA+ Certificate of Authenticity, with photographs. I would believe sophisticated advanced gemological laboratories are not completely up to date with material like this (the stone would make an outstanding article in a fine journal); other authorities like specialized geologists and space scientists i.a. - might in some cases not unexpectedly but unintentionally drop an unfamiliar object, damaging or even braking it. Shot in optimal conditions to exhibit color and transparency. There is a quite interesting video on the subject, which can bee seen on Youtube "Dawn to Vesta and Ceres with Carol Raymond".
