Sandalwood is the second-most expensive wood in the world, the wood and the oil produce a distinctive fragrance that has been highly valued for centuries.
Sandalwood scent is believed by some to transform one's desires and maintain a person's alertness while in meditation. It is also one of the most popular scents used when offering incense to the Buddha and the guru.
sandalwood is considered to be of the padma (lotus) group and attributed to Amitabha Buddha.

In Japan, Buddhists have Prayer beads (Juzu, Nenju). Kyoto is famous as a producing center of Prayer beads.
