There have been accounts of the British Double-Cross System by those who were involved at the top, but this book is the first to examine the situation from the point of view of the agents involved. Gunter Peis has spent more than 20 years interviewing men and women who were caught up in the machinery of espionage: some of them came out of the war wealthy and wise, having manipulated the game to their advantage; others were caught and executed before they had time to play out their role."
