An antique oval porcelain double inkwell or inkstand with the two wells molded with the image of a man’s face (the four winds, perhaps) on both the front and the back. Opaque glazed thin white porcelain. Painted with matte brown and shiny glazed green and gold vine around the edge. The front faces have gold painted details. Most likely made in France (Vieux / Old Paris) or England (Staffordshire) in the early to mid 19th century. The style looks similar to 18th century pieces, and it could be older. Impressed on the bottom “IIII 127” (handwritten), and painted on the interior edge in brown “10 48.”

Measures 1-1/2” H x 7” W x 4-3/4” D.

In good condition. No chips or cracks. The tops of the inkwells are uneven but not chipped. The inkwell liners and lids are not included. The wells are firmly glazed in place. There are some light ink stains on the interior of the right inkwell. The interiors and bottom are unglazed. The bottom has some rubbing wear and dark scuffs from moving on a rough surface. See images for details.
