The name of the author/illustrator Caran d'Ache is the pseudonym for the French satirist and political cartoonist Emmanuel Poire.  There are over 50 full page illustrations and some double page illustrations.  The double page illustrations are uniquely bound to span the illustration across two pages without a break in the artwork.  A fine example of early cartoon humor.
