An estate find - this vintage mid-century, very pale yellow Christening shawl / baby blanket was likely made in Japan. It features a lovely diamond and carpenter's star Jacquard woven pattern, with sweet little flowers embroidered on the blanket. It is trimmed in satin on the edges, and on the rounded corner where baby's head is placed.

There were 4 silk ties in the head area - now there are 3 (one is missing from one side), one on the other side and there are 2two at the center.  I'm not sure how this was intended to tie - possibly they are intended only to gather the sides.

Very lightweight, unusual and beautiful pattern. No tears or damage that I could see.

It measures about 30" x 32".
